3 Key Principles To Internet Marketing Success

The secret to online business success is marketing. The more you market, the more likely you are to connect with your potential customers because they know about you. Test your campaigns, do more of what works, and you will succeed.
Regardless of how much you know when you first start your business, there will always be other things you need to learn. Marketing is, of course, the most important. Marketing is one of the factors that will determine the success or failure of your business.

For those who are new to the internet, I think many think they need to know a whole lot more than they really do. They find the process of learning to market overwhelming. Let's face it: learning how to do something new won't make you any money. Learning marketing won't make you any money up front, but if you learn marketing, and then do it consistently, you have the potential to make a lot of money.

Below are three key principles I consider crucial to your success in any marketing venture:

1. If you don't market, you won't get any sales.

Businesses die when you don't market. It's not enough to put up a website and expect the search engines or your customers to find you. With billions of pages on the internet, that's a lot of noise competing for searchers' attention. You have to do something to get noticed.

Bad marketing is better than no marketing because at least you are getting the word out about your business. With bad marketing at least you are letting others know that you are out there.

If the economy is in a downturn, that's when businesses slow down on their marketing to cut expenses. The problem here is that when the economy takes a downturn, that's the time to really get out there and start marketing. Market more.

The upside to marketing more is that marketing more will increase your traffic and sales. It will also give you something to work with. You'll have a base for determining what is working and what isn't.

2. Apply the Law of Averages to your marketing campaigns.

Not every campaign you create will be a success. Bum Marketers know this too well. Not every article a bum marketer writes will be a success. What bum marketers know is that you have to create a lot of articles. As a marketer, you need to create as many marketing campaigns as possible.

What I'm saying here can be applied to any marketing campaign: 100 ads, articles, press releases, or whatever, will give you more traffic than 10. 1000 ads, articles, videos, etc. will give you more traffic than 100.

The Law of Averages means that basically the more you do something, the more likely you are to come up with a winning campaign. Here's the reason: the more you use a particular internet marketing technique, the better you get at it. The better you get at it, the better results you will get.

3. Test and track your efforts.

Some internet marketing techniques are easier to test than others. With search engine optimization, you look for improvement, like moving up the rankings with your keyword search terms. With articles you look to see which are being read the most often. Then you simply write more of the same articles.

Ads like pay per click and free ads are much easier to test because you compare the number of clicks to the number of sales.

Testing and tracking will tell you what is working and what isn't. You discard what isn't working, and you use what works to create more campaigns.

According to Mark Joyner, the grandfather of internet marketing, you need to do more of what isn't working, and stop doing what is not. Do more of what works to bring the good stuff into your life. In this case, it means that the more marketing campaigns you create, the more sales you are likely to make.
